(LVL1 Boneyard Hackathon) Message-ID: Blog Post Here:?http://www.lvl1.org/2012/04/13/lvl1-boneyard-hackathon-2012/ For those of you that haven't been to LVL1 (Louisville), we've got a boneyard of derelict electronics sitting unused in our basement. ?It's time to use them up, and see what we can build! ?Bloomington hackers, I'm calling you out! Can you best the home teams? Tell your friends, tell your family, form teams, and scout the boneyard, it's the 2012 LVL1 Hackathon! ?Sign-ups are limited to 10 teams, so hurry up! For 24 hours starting June 2nd, it?s an all-out hacker brawl to see who can build the coolest thing from a big pile of junk. ?Think of it as the home version of Junk Yard Wars. ?There are no rules, buy a ticket for your team, show up with your friends, and compete over tools and junk for 24 hours to build something incredible. ?You'll be given an Arduino and a breadboard to start out, but the rest is up to you. The Boneyard is LVL1?s Island of Misfit electronics. A place where the broken and downtrodden collects, and awaits reawakening. Each and every one of you will be having a hand in the zombificiation of some electronic device. Everything from oil-filled capacitors, to surplus mil-spec electronics lies in the Boneyard, waiting for your tender soldering iron. The boneyard receives regular infusions of fresh bones, so come early if you want to familiarize yourself. ?I'll be posting pictures of the current configuration to our flickr feed soon. The event will take place on June 2nd, starting at Noon. 24 hours later, the teams will judge each other, and a winner will be crowned! Cost will be $30 for teams, and all teams must be enrolled by May 26th. Bring extra cash for food and drink. The vending machine will be fully stocked, and we?ll be making regular food runs, so you can focus 24 hours of effort and attention on building something awesome. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on the list, or directly, at BradLuys... at gmail.com. The prize? ?Top 3 teams will win a trophy, and a years worth of bragging rights. ?Do you have what it takes? ?Sign up at the Eventbrite link below. ?Remember: Each team needs only one ticket. Eventbrite:?http://lvl1hackathon2012.eventbrite.com/ Da Rules: Teams may not bring in their own parts. All work must cease at Noon on June 3rd, 2012 Let me know if you have any questions. As usual the meeting will be pretty open ended, but likely topics for discussion and projects include the LVL1 boneyard hack-a-thon (Bloominglabs has a team - http://www.lvl1.org/2012/04/13/lvl1-boneyard-hackathon-2012/), the IR Harp, a chess clock for meetings, a device that helps dogs communicate, and pretty much whatever projects people feel inspired to bring in or talk about. Jenett ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Doug Couch Date: Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 10:17 PM Subject: [announce] Next steps? To: announce at lafayettemakerspace.org Hackers and Makers, I just wanted to touch base with you all and talk about what our next steps should be. As you may have heard recently, Mark wants to step back from the MakerSpace and let someone else take the wheel. Randy Herban and I volunteered simply because we don't want to see the idea die on the vine and since there's already a group of people interested we are hoping we can push forward. Our main goal here is to help steer the group towards building something that the group as a majority wants and hopefully find some resources and space that we can all afford. We both work at Purdue in Information Technology. I was hoping that we could get a few of us together to meet face to face and discuss some ideas further and perhaps develop an agenda for moving forward. I'm tentatively looking at next Wednesday or Thursday evening, the 9th or 10th of May. If I can just get some informal responses about what might work better for you I'll try to set something up that works for most of us. I'm planning on setting up some regular meetings so don't despair if you can't make it to this one. I was considering seeing if we could find someone from another local hackerspace that would be willing to come to the next meeting after this and discuss how their arrangement works and how they got started. Thanks and Happy Hacking! -Doug _______________________________________________ announce mailing list announce at lafayettemakerspace.org http://lafayettemakerspace.org/mailman/listinfo/announce_lafayettemakerspace.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
