Paul Swanson from Harmony School has contacted us about helping high school
students build theramins as part of his class curriculum. It's four 1 hour
and 45 minute class during Thursday afternoons in March. Bloominglabs is
certainly able to provide soldering irons, and other tools we have
available, but would anyone be willing to donate some of their time? If so,
please drop me and Paul a note. You can find information about the exact
dates and time and the kits he is planning on building. Any other questions
should be directed at Paul.

I think this sounds like a lot of fun, and I know I'll be volunteer for at
least one (if not all)
of these classes.

Jenett

Jenett,****

I bought two Jaycar theremin kits, as described at
http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5295****

I don’t know a whole lot about these specific kit models, but from what I
could glean it seemed that assembly and some soldering is required.****

Let me know if you have any other questions.**

Thanks for contacting us about your project! Blooominglabs is very
supportive of getting kids involved with making things and I'm sure our
members would love to be involved. I'll send this message along to our
members. It would be helpful to know what's involved in the kits. What
theramin kit did you buy?****

Hello,****

I met one of your members, I believe his name was Nick (works up at the
Cyclotron), at the Winter Market on Saturday. He told me a little bit
about what you all do out at Bloominglabs, and it sounds very exciting.
I’m a high school teacher at Harmony School, and this year for
Science/Tech/Math month (March) I’m going to be leading a class to build
two kit theramins. I am a musician and a big nerd, so I’m very excited
about the idea, but I don’t have much of a background in electronics (or
any background in it). Nick suggested that this might be the sort of
project that Bloominglabs would be interested in, and that he’d bring it up
at your next meeting. Very exciting!****

The class would run for 4 Thursday afternoons in March: the 1st, 8th, 22nd,
and 29th. The class is from 1-2:45 pm. If we wanted, I could probably
even drive a school van out to your facility (if that would make things
easier). Then on Friday, March 30th, we’ll be having our actual
Science/Tech exposition where we would get to show off our theramins and
let visitors play with them a bit.****

Let me know if anyone in your group would be interested. It’s going to be
fun!****

Cheers,****
