I'm putting forth the call for people to come help out at the space this weekend. Non-members: helping out this weekend will count towards your 3 required visits for becoming a member. There will be pizza and probably other foodstuffs. Here's a short list of priority items: 1. Seal woodshop floor: This is the big one. We will need to move everything off the concrete, clean it, and seal it. This should be the first thing people work on and I would like to see it started, if not finished, on Saturday. 2. Seal hallways off the woodshop (electronics / kitchen) 3. Continue to organize / sort items into their appropriate locations. Go through items in rooms and verify that is their rightful home (i.e. laser room extras) 4. Get laser cutter / 3d printers set up, running, and workstations for each. 5. Set up fire extinguishers / first aid stations. 5. Bring in items from storage. (low priority, get items situated that are already in the space before bringing in more) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I would like to meet both Saturday and Sunday as there are usually people that can only help one of the two days. I will try to be there by 11:00 both days. If members want to be there earlier, you are more than welcome to get a head start. The goal for Saturday is the woodshop / automotive area, though there will be times where we will have to wait for the floor to dry and can work on other things. It looks like Saturday is supposed to be nice, so I suggest moving a bunch of the woodshop stuff outside. Being my grill is still down there (and it's supposed to be nice), I will supply burgers and such for Saturday. Feel free to supply other food stuffs. Amatria is a rather smart art piece with hundreds of feathers, glass vessels, and other elements but also hundreds of sensors and actuators. It will provide a rather gentle and beautiful introduction of IoT (Internet of Things) to a general audience. Amatria aims to create a community of artists, designers, makers, engineers, scientists, and humanists that are interested to work together on desirable futures of human-machine intelligence and interaction. As part of the overall community process, we welcome volunteers (1 hour or more) to assist with the on?\site assembly of the sculpture. No prior knowledge is required, hands-on training is less than 5mins. All are welcome. Feel free to bring your family and friends. [http://cns.iu.edu/images/camps/sentient-architecture.jpg] Amatria is composed of a series of polymer and metal scaffold structures holding glass vessels and fitted with electronically controlled low?\voltage LED lights and miniature kinetic mechanisms. Surrounding the polymer scaffold is a floating undulating layers of interlinking skeletal polymer forms. The sculpture expresses delicate clouds of hovering ornamental material surrounding concentrations of interaction. Softly glowing lighting effects and kinetic vibration respond to movements of individual occupant. The sculpture will act as a beacon, with responsive light visible from a distance within the campus. Days/times: March 21th?C31st from 10am?\7pm (feel free to check with team on evening hours). Signup at http://signup.com/go/EdcLzDs or contact Gabriella gbevilacqua at pbarch.ca, cc??d or simply visit the 4th floor of Luddy Hall. This is a very unique opportunity to create interactive art + IoT together. Best regards, k -- Katy Borner Victor H.
